Why do I need device authentication and a password?
Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode opens the app. A separate container password unlocks the encrypted content. Device authentication does not replace that password.
What can I keep in Vault?
The prototype supports text notes, files, and photos, organized in folders. Import limits and container capacity depend on the volume format and selected size; check the limits shown in the app.
What if I forget a container password?
The prototype has no password-recovery mechanism or recovery keys. Keep your passwords safely outside the vault. Support cannot unlock a container for you.
How do I back up my vault?
Export the complete encrypted volume to a location you control. Keep more than one backup and verify that you can import and open a copy with the intended password. External backups remain separate from the app’s local copy.
What happens when I export one file?
Exporting an individual saved file or photo hands its unencrypted content to Files and the destination you choose. That location or its provider may retain or synchronize a copy. Whole-volume export remains encrypted.
Does deleting content erase every copy?
No. Earlier snapshots, exported volumes, and external backups can retain content. Deleting a local volume does not delete your external copies. Vault does not promise guaranteed secure erasure.
Why did my unsaved changes disappear?
Vault locks on backgrounding and after its session limit. Unsaved editor changes are discarded on locking. Save your work before leaving the app.
Is Vault ready for sensitive data?
The current project is an unaudited development prototype. Use test data only. Read the security overview for its threat model and known boundaries.
